Manchester Concert 7th June

A celebration of Anatolian and Middle Eastern Music with Paula Darwish, Serpil Kılıç and special guests Mina Mikhail Salama, Ertan Turgut and Lou Armer. Songs in Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, Greek, Armenian, Albanian, Iranian and more.
Anatolia and the Middle East have been  home to numerous civilisations, cultures and religions that have together create a beautiful tapestry of music. Recent events in the Middle East may create the impression that different cultures and religions cannot exist side by side but history shows us this is not true. We are not politicians we are musicians, and as long as politicians divide it will be our job to stand together and celebrate our true history of shared heritage, shared stuggle and shared songs.
Once a regular performer on the Manchester scene, this is Paula Darwish’s first full concert in Manchester since 2011. Despite her own Middle Eastern roots, she began musical life writing English songs and later became interested in Anatolian Music, leading her to study Turkish in London and Istanbul. She has now been performing Anatolian music for over fifteen years and has toured Turkey and Europe with her unique renditions of traditional folk songs. Serpil Kılıç plays the traditional instrument of Anatolia called ‘bağlama’ or ‘saz’, and has been performing with Paula for almost ten years. Mina Mikhail, is an accomplished oud and ney player, and reknowned performer of Coptic Music. Ertan Turgut plays saz and performs traditional Anatolian music. Lou Armer, is a skilled vocalist, songwriter and ukelele player who has also toured with the band.
