Cool Festivals for lovers of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean music
Whitby Musicport Musicport Festival is the UK's biggest indoor World Music Festival. Taking place in the North of England, it offers a unique opportunity to see a host of international artists all in one spot for the weekend. Tickets are very fairly priced and it's a great chance to try out a multitude of different musical styles to see if the glove fits. Musicport 2009 features artists as diverse as Misty in Roots, Rango, Paula Darwish and Justin Adams.
womad.org/festivals/charlton-park/ Womad was one of the first British festivals to break the mould and dare to put on music that wasn't primarily sung in English. Pretty massive these days it pulls in international superstars aswell as UK based world music artists. The facilities are great by festival standards and it attracts a chilled open-minded crowd.
